Solar Systems Ltd offers two natural circulation solar thermal complete systems: PureSolar 150 and PureSolar 200. The stainless steel boilers are manufactured at our plant in Malta along with the support structure and the connecting pipes; the collectors are manufactured in Greece and are EN 12975 certified. The PureSolar systems come with one stainless steel 316L boilers of 150 or 200 liters together with a 3 or 4 square meter set of two solar collectors (2 x 1.5 sqm and 2 x 2.0 sqm) in either black chrome or, on request, selective paint.

Both systems come with a supporting structure for flat roofs made in hot dip galvanized steel. They also come with a complete installation kit (bolts, pressure release valves, etc) and pipes to connect the collectors to the boiler; all connecting pipes between the boiler and the collectors are pre-formed, made of copper, earth linked and thermally insulated from the elements.

As with all solar water heaters, the hot water produced can be used directly (bathroom, kitchen, laundry machine, etc) or to pre-heat the sanitary water being sent to the conventional heating system (electricity, gas, etc). Overall, the water heating energy saving is up to 85%.

All Solar Systems Ltd boilers are manufactured with 2 mm shields of stainless steel 316L in both the closed circuit and boiler chambers; they have a thick polyurethane insulation and an outside cover in stainless steel 304. They are offered with a backup electric resistance with user settable thermostat and safety switch which allows the boiler to either keep the water hot during winter or cloudy days or to avoid freezing during winter in cold climates.

All boilers are equipped with a magnesium anode which allows a much longer life span, easily of 10-12 years or more. Both systems are designed to work with natural thermo siphon circulation, so there is no need for an electric pump and controller units to have it work properly.

Solar Systems Ltd exhibited 2 models of solar thermal, PureSolar 150 and PureSolar 200, in Solarexpo renewable energies fair, Verona – Italy.

Exhibitors showed yet again how much renewable energy technologies are growing both in quality and new ideas; it is imperative to better use the available energy and to smartly use the renewable ones.

Assolterm data shows, for the Italian solar thermal alone, a value of more than 400 million Euros and around 10,000 jobs (in 2008). ESTIF instead is estimating a growth of employed people in the EU solar thermal sector to 100,000 jobs in 2012 and 225,000 in 2016. To this numbers one would have to add all those employed in other renewable energies companies.

In 2007 Italy saw an increase of collector suface for the solar thermal reach 330,000 sqm, an increase of 80% when compared to 2006. Assolterm estimates for 2008 another increase of 20% to more than 400,000 sqm of solar collectors for the solar thermal sector.

Solarexpo 09 also hosted Greenbuilding, sustainable architecture.

(updated regularly)

•	Turn off all appliances in stand by and all appliances you are not using

•	Dress properly for the season and keep your thermostat lower in winter (less warm) and higher (less cold) in summer

•	Instead of cold air conditioning, use a fan, either ceiling or stand alone models

•	Keep the air conditioning unit in the shade (this alone saves around 10% electricity when compared to the units left in the sun)

•	Clean furnace and air conditioning filters regularly; blocked filters reduce the amount of heat/cooling sent to your home

•	15 to 20% (on average) of your home bills go to heat water. Use a solar water heater instead (for the summer months) and use the solar warm water to pre-heat the water going to your conventional heating source (gas, electricity, etc)

•	Set the hot water boiler thermostat to a temperature warm enough to bath or shower but not high to the point to need adding cold water

•	During hot months keep window shades closed during the day, especially those facing South, East and West. During winter, leave the window shades open and let the sun enter the room

•	When washing your clothes, set the laundry machine to either cold or warm and used specific detergents for that water temperature

•	Seal your doors and windows to avoid heat or cold to enter/leave the house

•	Insulate the hot water pipes along the way from the boiler to the tap
